United Nations climate negotiators extended the United Nations climate negotiations in Scotland for an additional day on Saturday, following two weeks of haggling in an attempt to reach an agreement that would offer the world a realistic chance of averting the worst effects of global warming.

President of the United Kingdom’s Climate Change Conference, Alok Sharma, said he expected COP26 to conclude on Saturday afternoon with an agreement between the nearly 200 countries in attendance, which ranged from coal and gas-fueled superpowers to oil producers and Pacific islands being swallowed by rising sea levels.
