An independent Afghan media organisation, Afghanistan Journalists Center (AFJC), stated on Sunday that two journalists, including a female TV anchor, were among the victims of a devastating blast at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan.
“In Thursday’s airport attack, Ali Reza Ahmadi, a reporter for Raha News Agency, and Najma Sadeqi, a former presenter at Jahan-e-Sihat TV channel, were also killed,” AFJC reported on Twitter.
At least 170 Afghans and 13 US soldiers were killed, with more than 200 people injured, in a suicide bombing at an eastern airport gate on Thursday, as large crowds waited for evacuation aircraft.
ISIS-K, a local offshoot of the Islamic State, has claimed responsibility for the attack, which primarily targeted women and children.
In the last two decades, over 100 journalists have been slain in Afghanistan, making it one of the most dangerous places for journalists.
